Lodging Tax/City Tax/Tourism Tax

It is not possible to receive a reimbursement for the so-called lodging tax if these expenses are avoidable and thus unnecessary, as described in § 14 LRKG in connection with § 3 LRKG.

Several states and cities levy a lodging tax for paid overnight stays. Business travelers are often excluded from this tax but must be able to prove that they are on a business trip. As a rule, the guest is responsible for providing evidence of this. This should not be a problem as long as the invoice is made out to and paid directly by the employer or the accommodations are booked directly by the employer. However, the lodging establishment might also require additional written confirmation from the employer or the guest.

For more information on taxes and the necessary forms (confirmation forms for guests or employers), please contact the particular city, state, or lodging establishment.
